At Opti Labs, we’re often asked how long to wait after having blepharoplasty or eyelid surgery before you can start using our growth treatment.
Blepharoplasty is cosmetic surgery to remove excess skin or fat from the eyelids. The surgery changes the look of hooded or drooping eyelids or eye bags.
Some doctors believe that you could start the treatment as soon as 2 weeks after surgery. We feel that it is best to wait at least 6 weeks at the very least. Although the treatment may not be in direct contact with some of the incisions it is prudent to take a break from the treatment. This will allow the tissue to fully heal without any interference to the repair process.
There are two types of stitches commonly used. The first are dissolvable but the second type are normally removed a week or so afterwards. If you have had any stitches that require removing then we recommend waiting 6 weeks from the day these are removed.
Bruising is relatively common in the recovery period and can last a variable length of time. Some may have only a small amount that lasts a week while others can have extensive bruising that can last a number of weeks. If there is still extensive bruising then it would be best to wait before starting the treatment again.
It does not matter if you are using it for the first time or if you have taken a break to have the surgery. The area needs to heal completely before starting the treatment. There should be no pain or discomfort, no redness at the area and no residual puffiness. Any incisions should not look red or angry. You should not be using any antimicrobial eyedrops or oral antibiotics. If you are back to using eyeliner without any discomfort then you should be ready to start using the treatment.

Most surgeons will have at least one follow up consultation with their patients. They can often advise when they think the most appropriate time would be.
There have not been any independent clinical trials studying the use of the growth treatment solution after blepharoplasty. Anecdotal experience and the similar use of bimatoprost for glaucoma suggests that there are no contraindications. We are not aware of any adverse cases reported in any of the common medical journals. The feedback from Opti Labs clients that have had blepharoplasty has been positive. We always err on the side of caution with your best interests in mind.
