LIGHTS, CROISSANT, MASK

Ever wondered what an Opti Labs photoshoot is like? Let me spill the tea…

Firstly, there’s lots of tea, and coffee. And croissants, and sometimes poke bowls for lunch. We don’t work well on an empty stomach.

This time we were back with our good friends at Jet Studios in London, and welcoming back the fabulous Brandon Hepworth behind the camera. The music was a mix of motown and jazz and the vibe was very laid back.

Ryan Lanji, our own social media guru and all round fabulous human, was running the shoot. He’d sourced some fantastic models for us, and we spent some time talking to them about our products and in particular our brand new Eyelash and Eyebrow Protecting Sleep Mask. It was super exciting to see them unboxed out of the office for the first time.

When our first model, Cher, arrived it was time for hair and make-up. At Opti shoots we tend towards the bare is better look (we want you to see our products, not a fully made up face) so barely anytime later she was in front of the camera.

We really like to have fun with our shoots. There’s a lot of playfulness and chat (albeit with Ryan keeping us on track). We often spend some time trying out different facial expressions and poses just to help us relax.

Cher took some amazing shots, and very gamely reclined on a somewhat improvised bed made out of a pillow, duvet and the floor, for some of the most iconic looks of the shoot.

We were beginning to wrap when our second model, Mercedes, arrived with some new energy. It was back to make-up and hair and on to some new shots. Every model brings something different, so we end up trying new things and seeing what works.

Back to the food. It’s time for lunch and a break so we do a group delivery order and camp out around the table in the studio to eat.

We’re down a model for the day, so we decide to do some product shots and some application videos for our other products, and we spend some time filtering through the day’s shots.

The hardest bit of any shoot is looking through the contact sheets afterwards. It’s so hard to choose which photos to use. We cut to the chase this time but picking them on the day and did away with the contact sheets altogether.

What do you think? Did we get the right shots?
